2018 Featherston Magnolia

King Valley, Victoria

Single vineyard white field blend of Garganega (67%) & Gewürztraminer (33%).

Gewürztraminer - pressed straight to older French oak barriques. Fermented wild with regular bâtonnage, followed by 5 months maturation.

Garganega – 75% was destemmed and spent 6 days on skins. 25% underwent three weeks carbonic maceration. Both batches then pressed to older French oak to complete wild fermentation. Matured for 5 months prior to blending. 

TASTING NOTE:  Bright straw-yellow in colour, this charismatic wine displays aromas of honeysuckle, lemon balm, stonefruit and lychee. The palate displays cool minerality among refreshing layers of melon and lemon with a subtle, gently savoury finish.

We have long loved the way that pale pink, crisp, dry, and aromatic Rosé suits both the pan-asian food served in our own home, and the climate of the country in which we live…

Composition

On the drier end of the spectrum, a deliberately delicate expression of rose, turkish delight, and lifted spice. The palate is long and intense, with strawberry fruit, a lick of amaro bitters, and a little tannin to provide the whip-tale of refreshment.

Consumption

Start from the fridge, and allow it to warm up, and consume with food that you eat with your hands. Betel leaves and spicy prawn salsa, figs wrapped in prosciutto - Salute!

Composition

This wine combines bright notes of pomegranate, sarsaparilla, violets and nutmeg typical of dry grown Tempranillo, with the perfume and succulence of old vine Grenache. This medium bodied wine is pretty and deliberately moreish. A lithe and juicy wine, it errs on the blood orange, cherry, red berry spectrum on the palate supported by savoury tannins built around a fine boned structure.

Consumption

Ideal serving temperature is 16 °C... Enjoy over a shared grazing meal, this food friendly versatile wine works a treat with a good selection of flavours from a platter of cured meats to, chorizo prawns to pizzas, pastas, quail and duck dishes. Cool cellaring between 5 years to 8 years will be rewarded.
